This weekend I walked through Urbana canvassing for Betsy Dirksen Londrigan and Aaron Ammons. When I signed up I wasn't aware of Aaron, however I'm glad that there were two candidates listed because several people I visited knew more than I, so I could always deflect back to the other candidate. In most cases it was sufficient that I had a few sentences to discuss (out of 60 people I talked to, none had anything good to say about the GOP tax plan).
For the next time I do something like this, I highly recommend comfortable shoes, and a water bottle (see improving canvassing). It seems very beneficial to canvas early - on one street I talked to several people interested in supporting Betsy, however none were interested in a yard sign, most-likely because a neighbor on the opposite side had a Rodney Davis sign up (seems like a first-flag principle).
