Installing and Starting

One can download VW from the Cincom site under the Try it picture link. After providing information to show that you are not planning to use the software for commercial use, a link will be sent to download an ISO image. From this is can be directly installed, or burned onto a CD to be installed on another system.

To start the install, run the CD contents, and a GUI should open. After selecting some defaults, one can follow the install PDF (the below is taken from that directly).

For Linux/Unix systems, it will install in the home directory, as in ~/vw7.10.1pul (for personal use license). The instructions also say to add a line similar to:

export VISUALWORKS=$HOME/vw7.10.1pul
export PATH=$PATH:$VISUALWORKS/bin/linuxx86_64 to the shell RC file (ie .zshrc). For Mac, this can help (especially when windows are not refreshing properly):

defaults write com.cincom.vw8.0 VISUALWORKS /Users/jborden/vw8.0.1pul

After opening a new window, VW can be started with:

0 ~ $ cd $VISUALWORKS/image
0 ~/vw7.10.1pul/image $ ls -atlr
