Why Use Pier

Since 2005, I've used Smalltalk based wikis for work, and personal projects. It has become habitual to first write down what I intend to do in a page, then execute it. This provides a level of safety and documentation (while I may not have as important of a reason for keeping notes, it certainly provides security).

For unix commands, it can be very dangerous to paste search results into a command line. By using the wiki editor, the command can be previewed and updated as needed. Similar commands for Smalltalk can be managed in the same way (although it is generally not as dangerous.

On many occasions memory fails to recall the details. Using Pier allows a level of searching which isn't possible in normal text documents. Having it on a more public platform makes it easier to publish for others' benefit.
