Politics

In the past I have heard the advice of several people saying to stay away from discussing politics, especially if you have other interests. While this may be sage advice for one specific situation, it is unlikely to be always good advice.

Democracies do not function if most are quiet, consider the fate of Athens in the Athenian/Persian War described by Dan Carlin. Ignoring a sweeping emotional argument can lead to an grime demise. Republics rely on informed citizens - Alan Kay has some points about Thomas Jeffferson 57 minutes into this interview. Example of political action. Small groups can affect a larger population using anger.

For something more current, here's a Science paper on search results and elections. Using a platform (like Pier) can affect this.

With so much noise on the political realm, it seems wise to focus on politicians who represent me directly:

For those in the US, this site collects representatives' tweets.
